Vilson Degen is a truck driver and recently left a deep depression that took away even the desire to come to church. On a recent visit of Pastor Carlos Kracke, from Lutheran Hour, to promote evangelistic activities in the city of Guarapari – ES, Vilson became a member of the Group of the Evangelists, supporting the Lutheran Hour Ministries and receiving outreach materials to distribute to the people. He found the happiness to share Christ with people, and often asks to the local pastor, Wallace Uhylig, more samples of Christian booklets produced by Lutheran Hour.
Vilson’s life has been very blessed by God, and together with his wife and daughter, actively participates in the Lutheran Church of Guarapari, including planning his schedule with the truck in order to have time to attend services.
Vilson now is doing his part in evangelism, distributing booklets when he stops at gas stations and cargo terminals throughout Brazil. In his trips, he’s always in contact with another truck drivers and workers with family problems and bad situations, with which it shares the materials he receives.
According to Vilson, who receive all the materials appear to be happy and grateful for the precious present. It is clear also the joy of this brother in share the Gospel in this way. And the pastor Wallace concludes: “So he and we all thank the Lutheran Hour for the support they have given to the work of our church here and all around the country.”

My name is Arlete and since I’m a member of Group of Evangelists of Lutheran Hour I’ve received booklets and other evangelistic materials that I shared with friends and relatives, because I know that these materials will help them. But I never thought that a booklet would be so important in my own life. I remember when I arrived in my home and saw the booklet “When everything ends” (a booklet about how to deal with death). I didn’t understand what that booklet was about, but I read it completely, took a shower and went sleep. Late at night, I received a call, and somebody was telling me that my brother had been involved in a motorcycle accident.
I went to the hospital immediately and there I received the notice my brother died. I couldn’t believe that it was happening. In that moment, it was amazing, but I felt strong to get in the hospital and watch my brother’s body. All family was crying, and one thing was clear for me: With that booklet about dead, God was preparing me and giving me the opportunity to comfort my relatives and friends. It was time to tell about the eternal life in Jesus Christ and how Christian people must be sure about it.
I’d like to thank you so much, people from Lutheran Hour, because you all stayed with me in the hardly times of my life.
This is a testimony from Arlete Hoffmann, city of Pancas, Estate of Espírito Santo – Brazil.

In August we received the visit of our International Director, Dr. Douglas Rutt, who came to Brazil accompanied by the Counselor for Latin America and the Caribbean, pastor Nilo Figur. For three days they could participate in various activities in São Paulo, that included a Lutheran Hour Sunday at Bom Pastor Lutheran Church, and a meeting with the Board of Directors of the Brazil Lutheran Hour Ministries.
The Lutheran Hour Sunday was very special because there was the celebration of a baptism, which is always a great joy. At the meeting with the Board of Directors was presented a report of activities performed by the organization in Brazil, and Dr. Douglas spoke about the activities of the Lutheran Hour Ministries around the world.
Dr. Douglas also had the opportunity to attend a service at Ebenezer Lutheran Church and visited Brazil Bible Society in the city of Barueri, São Paulo.

In a recent Evangelistic trip through the Northeast of Brazil, the Lutheran Hour Pastor Carlos Kracke and his wife Marcia had the opportunity to visit the Center for Children Labor Eradication and tell them the Parable of the lost sheep. But the surprise was Bramble, the character from Little Shepherd TV special. This big sheep – a costume produced by Brasil Lutheran Hour – arrived to bring happiness to the children. Each of them received a booklet and the Center received a copy of Little Shepherd DVD, so they can always watch this wonderful special.
The local Pastor Wallace Uhylig says that was wonderful have this Bramble Sheep character as a tool to keep in touch with the kids. They loved Bramble and everyone gave a big hug in the sheep, as we can see in pictures below.

Since June 1th, the Brazil Lutheran Hour Ministries is conducting on-line Bible Studies every Wednesday evening using a webcam and streaming via “Twitcam”. The attendance was around 15 people in each study, which is a good number, considering the first three transmissions, with almost no publicity.
To watch the Bible Study – in Portuguese – you need to visit www.twitter.com/caminho_hl and follow the link which is posted there, right before the study begins, Wednesday at 6:00pm (Brazil – Brasília and São Paulo time).
This is a very new experience from Brazil LHM, on “The Way Project” , which has the purpose to bring the Gospel to the neighborhood with gatherings and Bible Studies held at the office of Brazil Lutheran Hour Ministries. Now, with the studies also being offered via internet, we will be able to share these studies with people that are connected in different cities and even on different countries.
So, if you want to see a little bit of our on-line Bible Study, follow us at @caminho_hl every Wednesday, 6:00pm (Brazil – São Paulo local time). You can also watch the three previous streamed studies at the links below.

The following history was told by Agnes Maltzahn, from Campo Grande, northwest of Brazil..
Agnes is a dentist, and a member of the Group of Evangelists from the Brazil Lutheran Hour.
“A couple of elder patients, very united and lovely with each other, to whom I had a especial care, at the end of the year, the husband, suddenly , started to have few health problems. That happened while he was treating with me.
After many tests liver’s cancer was diagnosed. His wife came to my office and shared her pain with me. I tried to comfort her and I gave her the Lutheran Hour booklet “When everything is over”, and aske her to read it at home with affection and prayer.
Some days later I was invited to attend her husband’s funeral. When I hugged that lady, she just repeated many times: “That little book helped me so much these last days”.
I’m thankful that God gave me that opportunity to help someone in some way, in an unexpected time of tribulation. So, never give up of this Minsitry. There certainly are many histories like this which are forgotten without being shared.
God bless you in every given message so that God’s kingdom may grow and His holy name be glorified.

In a partnership with a shoe store in the city of Novo Hamburgo, Brazil Lutheran Hour has sent regularly 500 samples of the quarterly devotional Five Minutes with Jesus to be used by the Evangelical Chaplaincy of ULBRA Hospital. Pastor Mario Sonntag send us some photos that highlight the importance of sharing these devotional with people who go through very difficult moments in a hospital.
Hellena is a 4 months baby (at picture) that was waiting for a surgery that would remove a large tumor in his brain. The parents were heartbroken, because the chances of survival were very small, according to doctors. Pastor Mario talked and prayed with them before surgery, bringing them the consolation of God’s Word. After surgery, with great joy the parents reported that there wasn’t a tumor, but another type of tissue that had formed. The problem was not so serious and they were very relieved.
Weeks later, as they prepared to leave the hospital, pastor Mario Sonntag had the opportunity to take pictures with this family, and there was another mother in the same room with her little girl also to get a surgery (Picture below ). Pastor gave her a copy of Five Minutes with Jesus, and Hellena’s mother said to her:
“You can get this booklet. It will be good for you. The pastor gave me one when we talked the first time. It was my companion all these days. In the worst moments I’ve found help and strength in the messages I read.”
May God bless all who receive materials distributed by the Evangelical Chaplaincy and all those involved in this partnership that brings relief for people in suffering.
Below, more pictures of Evangelical Chaplaincy in partnership with Brazil Lutheran Hour and a Shoe Store.
